The Bettaci Trail
In the verdant heart of Pezzolo, the Bettaci Trail winds through ancient stone paths and rural memories, offering a journey that blends natural beauty with the region's rich history. Lovingly restored by local young volunteers, this trail leads to the remnants of a 16th-century mill and a majestic 19th-century aqueduct bridge, testaments to the ingenuity and hard work of our ancestors.
The Bettaci Bridge, constructed in the late 1800s, stands with its four arches over the Grata ravine, reaching a height of over 20 meters. Built using local materials such as terracotta "catusi" and bricks produced in the nearby Casso kilns, it exemplifies the extraordinary rural architecture and hydraulic engineering of its time.
Today, the Bettaci Trail is more than just a nature walk; it's a symbol of community revival. Events like the Trinacria Arts Festival and guided tours organized by local volunteers have transformed this site into a meeting point between past and present, where the appreciation of cultural heritage intertwines with the dedication of the younger generations.
Il Sentiero Bettaci
Nel cuore verde di Pezzolo, il Sentiero Bettaci si snoda tra antichi selciati e memorie rurali, offrendo un percorso che unisce la bellezza naturale alla storia del territorio. Recuperato con passione da giovani volontari locali, questo sentiero conduce ai resti di un mulino cinquecentesco e a un maestoso ponte acquedotto ottocentesco, testimonianze dell'ingegno e della laboriosità dei nostri antenati.
Il ponte di Bettaci, costruito alla fine del XIX secolo, si erge con le sue quattro arcate sopra il vallone Grata, raggiungendo un'altezza di oltre 20 metri. Realizzato con materiali locali come i "catusi" in terracotta e mattoni prodotti nelle vicine calcare di Casso, rappresenta un esempio straordinario di architettura rurale e ingegneria idraulica dell'epoca.
Oggi, il Sentiero Bettaci non è solo un cammino nella natura, ma anche un simbolo di rinascita comunitaria. Eventi come il Trinacria Arts Festival e le escursioni organizzate dai volontari hanno trasformato questo luogo in un punto di incontro tra passato e presente, dove la valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale si intreccia con l'impegno delle nuove generazioni.
